AGP disinfection protocol

This video shows you a simple soak and dry test that helps you to determine whether the foam on your visor can be disinfected using a viricidal wipe. It is difficult to see at first glance whether the foam on your visor is porous or not. A porous foam creates a environment where viruses and bacteria can hide deep in the foam's structure. This means that you cannot disinfect it to HTM01-05 effectively. The manufacturers of these disposable visors expect you to dispose of the visor after each session when you are not creating aerosols. They expect you to dispose of them immediately after an aerosol generating procedure (AGP). While this is safe, it is also potentially expensive as you are open to fluctuating visor prices depending on market demand and also need to consider clinical waste disposal costs.
Reusable visors have a closed cell foam, like the collar on the Provizage visor. This means it is not porous, but water repellent. Bacteria and viruses are on the surface only and will be killed when the viricidal / bacterial wipe comes into contact with them. You can wipe the visor down and be sure you can disinfect to HTM01-05 effectively, preventing cross contamination and reusing your visor time and time again.
